March 8, 2005

We went down to the Post Office to get our mail today. I had received a notice to serve on jury duty and I called to ask for dismissal. Our phones will not work in the campground area and we must drive into Pahrump proper to have a connection.

When we got back to the campground, I went to see a man that was advertising internet hookup for $30.00 a month. He had the T-Mobile internet air cards. He said the connection is always better than a cell phone, but I was skeptical about how many areas don’t have T-Mobile service. He had a meeting at 1:00 and I went to that but I don’t think I learned anything specifically new. It costs $175.00 to $200.00 for the card and $35.00 to make the connection. We haven’t bought an antenna yet and that might help us. Also Verizon has a new download that we can’t get until we get to Brian’s. I guess we’ll see if those would help our connection.

For your information, I am blogging through my cell phone ,Verizon, using Quick2net, Verizon’s ISP. They have a faster service called Expressnet, but it is $79.99 per month. My connection probably is between 6k and 14k on Quickwnet. Then maybe because of the slow speed it is very difficult to get through Mozzila and the blog without my computer checking out. Certain times seem to make a lot of difference, I suppose depending on the traffic on the sites. The best alternative would probably be satellite, Direcway or the other one?? This is $600.00 for equipment and $59.00 per month

After dinner we went to the winery for a short tour. We stood in line for a taste test, but we gave up and left as we really didn’t cared whether we had wine or not.

This evening we invited Dale and Shirley over for supper. (He is familiar with farming). They brought a video of Death Valley that we watched. Then we played a game of Bug, or Oh Hell, or Charlotte’s Game.
